Nonprofit Executive Spotlight: People Matter

We are well into 2022 now, but if we think back to the overwhelming uncertainty of the lockdown in 2020, we remember that many of our nonprofit management colleagues lost their jobs. This was the result of panicked Boards of Directors thinking they needed to save money due to the loss of income from in-person events.

While it may have made sense to the Boards, it never made sense to me, because I know from my own experience that people are your most valuable asset, and always have been. Every staff member has relationships, knowledge, and experience that contributes to the overall success of the organization. Cutting staff in times of trouble is like poking your eye out because you have dust in it.

Seeing our nonprofit colleagues lose their jobs due to Board panic attacks was tough, especially when we learned that some nonprofit membership organizations were wiping out entire membership departments. That sends a good message to your members - NOT.

We looked around at that time and thought, “What can we do to help our nonprofit management colleagues who are losing their jobs?” And we realized: we have a podcast. We know how to do video presentations. Let’s start a series featuring nonprofit professionals seeking their next position!

That’s how it all started. We wanted to do something, so we did what we can, which is to help raise awareness of professionals in the job market. We created Nonprofit Executive Spotlight (NES) to feature our colleagues who are seeking their next opportunity. By offering this service, we help our colleagues raise awareness of their interests, skills, and abilities while showcasing their intelligence and personality. It’s a great way for potential employers to get to know more about candidates via a recorded conversation.

We live by a few rules, and one of them is this: Do what you can, when you can, with what you’ve got. This rule is one of the inspirations for NES. Check out our playlist on YouTube.

Are you a nonprofit executive seeking your next position? Or do you know someone who is? If you or someone you know is interested in appearing on NES, contact me via email to schedule a short call: cecilia@roguetulips.com

Please note: NES is not for people who are currently employed, or who have recently started a consulting business.
