Mark Your Calendar! My First Book Publishes Nov. 22

“Sadly, the focus is on bureaucracy rather than outcomes. I still hear many association professionals who work with chapters complain that they won’t do what they are told or that they can’t control them. You don’t win hearts and minds by beating people over the head, but you do create a negatively tense situation that leads to disruption and lackluster experiences.

This is why chapter systems are frustrating instead of fruitful. We become more focused on the system rather than the people the system is meant to serve. Associations are, after all, the relationship industry. And relationships require a certain emotional investment that goes beyond the bureaucracy and feeds the soul of the members.”

I’m excited to share this excerpt from my first book Association Chapter Systems: From Frustrating to Fruitful, available on November 22, 2024. After years of working in chapter systems of all kinds, I see the need for change in how we network with and support members at the local level.

The 21st century is full of opportunities despite being fraught with anxiety-inducing unknowns. We can’t control everything in the world, but we can make a difference in our own associations. We can choose to change or improve how we relate to our volunteers and broader membership. My book offers practical insights and solutions for relationship management and remaking today’s association.
