ASAE25 Annual Meeting: Ethics Session Preview! August 11
Ethics is a topic that defines who we are as individuals. Ethical decision making can seem daunting, no matter how evolved you are, but if you are prepared in advance, you will be able to make the best choices that support the most people affected by the decision.
That’s why I’m excited to be presenting with my colleagues from the ASAE Ethics Committee Cindy Ziegler, Chair, and Larry Smith, CAE, Chair-Elect, at the 2025 ASAE Annual Meeting in August. When not helping associations better understand ethics, Cindy is Director of Governance and Special Initiatives at APIC, and Larry is the Principal/Executive Director at IIB Association Group. And if you are reading this, you already know who I am.
Our session is on August 11 at 11:15 am PDT (yes it does qualify for the ethics CE requirement!) and our session is about the newly revised ASAE Ethics Toolkit. As members of the ASAE Ethics Committee we are excited to unveil the updated Ethics Toolkit which includes guidance on how to create and review policies related to ethics. Areas covered in the toolkit include (but are not limited to!) confidentiality, conflicts of interest, harassment, and whistleblowers.
This in-depth reference tool includes sample policies shared by ASAE members from their own organizations so you can find real-world examples that can inform your own work.
But wait – there’s more! Our session will feature scenarios inspired by the Ethics Toolkit so you can see policies in action. The application of policy is what makes the difference so these exercises will give you confidence in your daily work and decision making.
Determining our ethical outlook and creating an ethical mindset helps us contribute to creating ethical organizations. That’s why I encourage you to add this session to your annual meeting schedule. Not only will it help you navigate your own ethical journey, it will support your efforts to guide your organization into an ethically-aware culture.
And if you think the topic of ethics is boring, you haven’t been having the right conversations. Join us on August 11 to find out more about ethics, how to handle ethical issues, improve your decision making, and apply the lessons from the Ethics Toolkit. It will be an hour well spent!
